Read Across America Day

Fountain Place employees, customers and business friends participated in Read Across America Day on March 2, 2007. This event was held and planned by Crescent Real Estate for Onesimo Hernandez Elementary School, who is our FACES of Change® school.

The Read Across America program began in 1997. The nationwide reading celebration takes place each year on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss, who epitomizes a love of learning. Dr. Seuss's use of rhyme makes his books an effective tool for teaching young children the basic skills they need to be successful.

Fountain Place customers created party boxes for FACES of Change partner school, Onesimo Hernandez Elementary School.

In December 2006, Fountain Place customers selected a classroom and created a decorated box filled with all the ingredients for a fun classroom party. This year a total of eight boxes were delivered to Hernandez Elementary. Prior to delivering the boxes to the school, they were displayed in the lobby and the Winner was chosen based on the creativity of the decorations. Congratulations to Allegro Development for Winning Party-in-a-Box 2006.

Thank you to all the participating teams including: Wells Fargo Treasury Management Sales; Stinnett; Crescent-Management; Wells Fargo Energy; Allegro Development; Hunt; Crescent-Administrative; Crescent-Administrative II

Fountain Place and Crescent Real Estate are proud to have Onesimo Hernandez Elementary School as their partner in the FACES of Change program.

Onesimo Hernandez Elementary School is located northwest of downtown Dallas. The school was opened in 1996 and named after Dr. Onesimo Hernandez. From the fields where as a youngster he picked onions, sugar beets and cotton to the operating rooms in Dallas where for more than 40 years he practiced medicine, Dr. Onesimo Hernandez displayed academic brilliance, determination, and concern for civil rights.

Dr. Hernandez was born in 1925 and died in Dallas Sept. 28, 1994.

The student population is approximately 618 students. These students make up grades Pre-K through 6th grade. The school colors are yellow and black and the mascot is a star. Approximately half of the students reside in Cedar Springs Place Housing Developments near the school. Other students live in apartment complexes and single-family dwelling nearby. The school population is 70% Hispanic, 20% Caucasian, 8% Asian and 95% free or reduced lunch.

For more information, the school's Web site is www.dallasisd.org/schools/realtor_new.cfm?id_con=106.

Trick-or-Treat 2006

As an annual event, Fountain Place enjoys inviting students from our Faces of Change® school to trick-or-treat at the building. This year Onesimo Hernandez Elementary first and second graders enjoyed dressing up as their favorite story characters while receiving candy. Thanks to all participating customers for a successful event, we had many smiling and laughing children.
